Caleta de Famara, White sand beach in Lanzarote, Spain.

Caleta de Famara is a 190-meter beach on Lanzarote's northern coast where tall cliffs rise directly from the sand and ocean. The shore has light-colored sand and slopes gradually into water that moves with strong currents further out.

The location developed as a fishing harbor that served local fishermen for generations as their primary economic center. Over recent decades the area shifted toward water sports, bringing new uses to the beach and coastline.

The settlement retains its roots as a fishing village where traditional ways continue to shape daily life and the built environment. Residents and visitors coexist in a place where modest buildings and local shops reflect decades of maritime connection.

The water here is known for strong waves and currents, making it ideal for experienced surfers and kitesurfers. Swimmers should be cautious and stick to the shallower areas or check local conditions before entering the water.

The beach changes appearance with the seasons - summer reveals wide light-colored sand while winter exposes rocky formations underneath. These natural shifts mean each visit can feel quite different depending on when you come.
