Casa-Museo César Manrique, Modern art museum in Haría, Spain
Casa-Museo César Manrique is a museum housed in a traditional Canarian farmhouse nestled among palm groves in northern Lanzarote. The building contains the artist's personal possessions, furnishings, and artworks displayed within his former living spaces.
The artist purchased the property in 1986 and lived there until 1992 as his primary residence. He preserved the original Canarian farmhouse design rather than transforming it into something entirely new.
The museum reveals how Manrique blended traditional Canarian building methods with contemporary artistic thinking in his work. Visitors can observe the ways local materials and the landscape shaped his creative approach.
The museum sits about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of the main airport and is best reached by car. Guided tours available in multiple languages help visitors understand the collection and the building's layout.
The house opens toward the surrounding landscape through expansive windows and interior courtyards. The gardens grow directly from the volcanic rock that defines the island.
