Playa de la Cantería, Sandy beach in Haría, Lanzarote, Spain

Playa de la Cantería, also called La Playa de Atrás, lies beside the fishing village of Órzola in the municipality of Haría, at the northern end of Lanzarote. The beach faces the channel toward La Graciosa and the Chinijo islets, and its waves draw surfers, with championships held there each year.

During the Spanish Civil War, trenches were dug into this beach near Órzola. Surf championships are now held here several times a year, and on days when the island gets a south wind the water is calm enough for a swim.
