Eco-Boulevard, Sustainable architectural structure in Ensanche de Vallecas, Spain
The Eco-Boulevard is a sustainable architectural structure with three cylindrical pavilions that integrate solar panels and evaporative cooling systems along a pedestrian-friendly route. The installation spans a large area and combines walkability with innovative technologies for temperature control.
The project was developed by Ecosistema Urbano in 2007 to revitalize a suburban development that lacked social activity. It responded to the need for new public spaces in a growing district.
The pavilions serve as gathering spots where residents participate in developing green spaces and support renewable energy use in their district. These spaces allow the neighborhood to work together on sustainable solutions.
The design uses passive ventilation and wind-catching systems that keep temperatures roughly 10 degrees Celsius lower than the surrounding area. Visitors should explore the space on foot to fully experience the layout and how these systems function.
The pavilions are intentionally temporary and can be dismantled once natural vegetation in the area reaches maturity. This shows an innovative approach where the infrastructure fulfills its purpose and makes itself obsolete.
