Ensanche de Vallecas is a residential neighborhood in southeastern Madrid with contemporary apartment blocks, wide avenues laid out in a grid, and planned green spaces. The district combines housing with shopping and leisure facilities, including the large La Gavia shopping complex.
The district was established as a new administrative neighborhood in 2017 within Villa de Vallecas as part of an urban expansion program. Its creation followed a planned growth strategy aimed at providing contemporary housing in southeastern Madrid.
The neighborhood incorporates public art installations and murals throughout its streets, reflecting the modern interpretation of Madrid's residential areas and community spaces.
The neighborhood connects to central Madrid via Valdecarros metro station and has many schools, sports facilities, and shopping options available. Access and navigation are straightforward thanks to the regular street layout, and facilities cater to residents' everyday needs.
The district emerged from a public naming consultation where residents proposed two options, with La Gavia receiving 1,801 votes and Ensanche de Vallecas getting 1,159 votes.
