Villa de Vallecas

Villa de Vallecas is a district in southeast Madrid comprising three neighborhoods with distinct layouts and building styles. The historic core, Santa Eugenia, and the expansion area each developed separately and retain individual characters.

The area functioned as a separate municipality before becoming an administrative district of Madrid in 1950. This merger marked a turning point that transformed its status and connection to the capital.

The district retains its working-class identity through community gatherings and local traditions that shape daily life. Residents maintain a strong sense of neighborhood belonging that remains visible in how people use public spaces.

Multiple metro stations and bus routes connect the district to central Madrid and make it easy to navigate. Visitors can move between neighborhoods and reach other parts of the city without difficulty.

A major housing development created substantial new residential areas in the district in recent decades. This project reshaped large sections of the area and added modern neighborhoods to the older parts.
