Fábrica de cerveza El Águila Negra, Beer factory in Colloto, Spain.
Fábrica de cerveza El Águila Negra is a former brewery on Calle General Lacy in Colloto, made up of several industrial buildings including a malthouse, administrative blocks, and tall grain silos. The site now operates as a cultural center with exhibition rooms, an archive, a cafeteria, and an auditorium open to the public.
The brewery opened in 1912 and ran for several decades before production stopped in the 1980s. In 1990 the site was officially protected as a cultural asset, which set the stage for its transformation into a public cultural space.
The old brewery buildings now draw people from across the region for exhibitions, readings, and public events. Walking through the courtyards, visitors can still read the rhythms of a working factory in the layout of the buildings around them.
The site sits in the center of Colloto and is easy to reach by public transport, with clear signs to help you find your way around the grounds. Giving yourself enough time to walk between the different buildings and outdoor areas makes the visit more rewarding.
The tall metal silos that once stored barley for brewing were converted into book storage rooms while keeping their industrial exterior intact. From the outside, there is no sign that these former storage towers now hold shelves of books inside.
