Necrópolis de la judería de Valladolid, Medieval Jewish necropolis in Acera de Recoletos, Valladolid, Spain.
The Necrópolis de la judería de Valladolid is a medieval burial ground located in the city center, stretching along the central walkway of Campo Grande park. Approximately 78 graves sit between the park fence and Acera de Recoletos street, extending from Plaza Zorrilla to Plaza Colon.
The burial ground dates to the Middle Ages and served the local Jewish community until the Jewish expulsion from Spain in 1492. After this event, the land was sold off and its original purpose faded from public memory.
The cemetery shows how medieval Jewish burial customs shaped the way graves were organized in straight rows across the site. This orderly arrangement reflects religious beliefs that guided every detail of the funeral practices.
The cemetery is located within a busy public park, making it easy to find and reach from the city center. The site is freely accessible without entrance fees, allowing for a visit at any time that suits you.
During park renovation work in 2002, archaeologists unexpectedly uncovered the remains and grave goods preserved by the alkaline soil conditions. This discovery brought a site that had been forgotten for centuries back into public awareness.
