Church of San Juan de Letrán, Valladolid

The Church of San Juan de Letrán is a Baroque building with a distinctive facade featuring curved forms, pebble decorations, plant motifs, and sculptures representing Faith and Charity. Inside, the space is divided into sections with detailed plasterwork and religious imagery throughout.

The building began in 1550 as a shelter for thirteen poor people and later became a temple under the royal protection of Carlos I. The structure underwent significant changes over the following centuries before taking on its present Baroque form.

The interior displays ornate plasterwork from the 1730s that shows the Spanish Baroque style through its decorative patterns and religious symbols. These details reflect how people of that era expressed their faith through architectural design.

The building underwent extensive restoration work between 2011 and 2014 and now serves as a diocesan center. Access may vary depending on religious events or activities taking place in the space.

The facade was designed by Municipal Architect Matías Machuca with an unusual convex-concave construction incorporating bulbous columns and the royal shield of Spain. This innovative design was unconventional for its time and sets it apart from other Spanish Baroque churches.
