Church of San Pío X, Ourense, Catholic church in Mariñamansa district, Ourense, Spain.
Church of San Pío X in Ourense is a stone building in the Mariñamansa district with a central rose window guarded by small stone crosses. The structure rests on six square-based pillars of granite that display reliefs depicting Saint Pius X's life.
The church opened in 1964 on land formerly occupied by a bullring. This site later transformed into a tuberculosis hospital before that facility moved to Piñor.
The main chapel displays sculptures of the crucified Christ, Virgin Mary, and Saint John, created by artists Acisclo Manzano and Manuel Buciños. These artworks shape the interior and reflect the artistic vision that developed during the building's construction period.
The building is easily reached through the streets of Mariñamansa, located in an established residential area. Visitors should know the parish holds regular services, and the interior is best explored during normal opening hours.
The Diocese exchanged a building known as Corona Prison with the city council for the plot where the church stands today. This unusual land swap made the construction of the church possible on this site.
