Iglesia de Santa María de la Encarnación

The church structure features three naves separated by pointed arches, with a polygonal header and Gothic ribbed vaults covering the central space.

Built in 1485 on the foundation of a former mosque, the church underwent major reconstruction after an earthquake caused substantial damage in 1850.

The interior preserves an arch from the original mosque's mihrab, representing the architectural transition from Islamic to Christian religious structures in Spain.

The church opens its doors to visitors daily, offering access to the rooftop for views across Vélez-Málaga and the surrounding landscape.

A grand chandelier containing 34 lights and 24,700 glass pieces illuminates the central nave of the church, creating patterns on the stone walls.
