The Castillo de Vélez-Málaga features a main tower standing 18 meters tall with a 6.5-meter square base and consists of four distinct floors.
Originally constructed during the Moorish period, the castle underwent complete reconstruction of its main tower in 1970, when only a portion of the west wall remained.
The castle exhibits Islamic architectural elements through its reconstructed horseshoe arches and traditional mud-brick construction techniques visible in its curtain walls.
Visitors can reach the castle either by car with parking inside the grounds or by foot following the path from Calle Fortaleza Alta past Santa Maria Church.
The castle walls currently undergo archaeological excavation and restoration work, revealing original foundations and construction methods from the medieval period.
