Teuva Church

Teuva Church is a modernist religious building in Teuva with clean lines, functional design, and large windows that flood the interior with natural light. The inside features bright surfaces and open spatial arrangements typical of Nordic architecture from the 1950s.

The original wooden church building was destroyed by fire in 1950, prompting construction of a new house of worship. Architect Elsi Borg designed this replacement building, which was completed in 1953.

The altarpiece titled 'Ten Virgins' was created by Tove Jansson, showing collaboration between two notable Finnish female artists in religious architecture. The partnership between the architect and artist represents an uncommon example of women's creative work in this field.
