Pitkämö reservoir, reservoir in Kurikka, Finland
Pitkämö reservoir is a large body of water in Kurikka covering about 100 hectares and stretching roughly 5 kilometers long. It receives water from three streams including the Kyrönjoki and later flows through a power station into the Jalasjoki River.
The reservoir was built in 1970 to store water and control water levels for the local area. Since its construction, it has become an important part of the region's infrastructure and landscape.
The area is easily accessible by local roads and paths with marked parking and walking trails along the shore. The public swimming beach on the waterfront is especially popular during warmer months for swimming and picnicking.
Water from the reservoir powers a generator producing about 7.4 megawatts through an electricity station. This connection between water storage and green energy production makes it more than just a storage lake.
