Kurikka is a municipality in Southern Ostrobothnia covering about 1,724 square kilometers with forests and lakes throughout the region. The area is characterized by a quiet, rural landscape with numerous water bodies and natural woodlands.
The municipality separated from Ilmajoki in 1868 and received city status in 1977. This evolution shows the gradual growth and independence of the settlement over more than a century.
The Rytmiraide jazz festival brings musicians and music lovers to the Old Station every August. This event has become an important gathering place for jazz fans in the region.

King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden spent a night in 1626 at the Wähä-Kurikka house, which still stands opposite the church. This royal connection remains tangible through the original building that visitors can see today.
