Seinäjoki Town Library

Seinäjoki Town Library is a modern building with a copper exterior and extensive glass facades. Underground passages connect different sections, making it easy to access reading areas, collections, and activity spaces throughout the building.

The original library building was created in 1965 by architect Alvar Aalto as part of the civic center. Later, JKMM Architects designed a contemporary addition that expanded the facility with modern spaces.

The library functions as a meeting place where people gather for events, children's programs, and community activities. You can see families, students, and locals using the spaces together throughout the day.

Underground passages allow you to move comfortably between all sections regardless of weather conditions. You can easily navigate between current collections and other materials without needing to go outside.

The building uses cast concrete with long-span beams that create open, unobstructed interior spaces without supporting columns. This design approach also incorporates careful insulation to keep energy costs low.
