Nurmo Church, Lutheran church in Nurmo village, Seinäjoki, Finland

Nurmo Church is a wooden structure from the 18th century featuring traditional Finnish ecclesiastical design. The building can accommodate around 650 people and sits prominently in the Nurmon kirkonseutu district of the region.

Construction began in 1777 when local residents started the project without official permission. Building master Antti Hakola took charge of the work but died in 1778, after which his son Kaapo finished the building in 1779.

The church serves as a gathering place for the local Lutheran community to worship and celebrate together. It remains an important spot in the social life of the region, where residents come together for various occasions.

The church sits in the former municipality of Nurmo, which merged with Seinäjoki in 2009 and is accessible from the city center. The traditional wooden construction remains easy to reach, making visits straightforward for those interested in local architecture.

The original building master Antti Hakola drowned in the Nurmo river during construction, marking a tragic chapter in the building's origins. This dramatic event remains part of local memory and is often overlooked by visitors.
