Nurmo Church, Lutheran church in Nurmo village, Seinäjoki, Finland
The wooden Nurmo Church stands at an elevation of 46 meters in the Nurmon kirkonseutu district of Seinäjoki, featuring traditional Finnish ecclesiastical architecture.
Local residents initiated the construction of Nurmo Church in 1777 without official permission, and building master Antti Hakola supervised the work until his death in 1778.
The church maintains its position as a central gathering point for Lutheran worship in the region, accommodating 650 people for regular services and ceremonies.
Visitors can find the church in the former municipality of Nurmo, which merged with Seinäjoki in 2009, making it accessible from the city center.
After Antti Hakola drowned in the Nurmo river during construction, his son Kaapo took over and completed the church project in 1779.
