The village took its present name in 1847 when Gevrey added Chambertin, named after the legendary Champ de Bertin vineyard. This name change reflected the growing importance of this outstanding site in European wine production.
The name comes from the renowned Chambertin vineyard, whose reputation grew over centuries and became central to the village's identity. Today, wine estates and cellars define the streets, showing how deeply this craft is woven into daily life here.
