Clos de Tart, Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, France
Clos de Tart is a 7.5-hectare vineyard estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, located in the southern portion of this Burgundy village. The property grows on limestone and clay soils bordered by neighboring wine properties.
Cistercian nuns established the estate in 1141 and maintained control until the French Revolution in 1791. The property then passed to the Marey-Monge family, who continued its development.
The vineyard grows only Pinot Noir grapes following strict Burgundy traditions that shape local wine culture. Walking through the rows, visitors see how this singular focus defines the character of wines produced here.
It is best to visit during harvest season when vineyard work is most visible to guests. Access is restricted and requires advance arrangements with the estate.
The estate has maintained its original boundaries for over 900 years without ever being divided through inheritance. This continuity makes it one of Burgundy's rare monopolies with unbroken history.
