Puy-Saint-Vincent, commune in Hautes-Alpes, France
Puy-Saint-Vincent is a ski resort set on a high plateau at about 4,500 feet (1,380 meters) in the Southern Alps, made up of three small hamlets. It offers slopes for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced runs, plus areas for cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and off-piste exploration.
The settlement began as a small farming village where residents made their living from sheep herding and farming on rocky terrain. Over time it developed into a destination for winter visitors, while local mountain traditions and ways of life have remained largely unchanged through the generations.
The name reflects the strong connection between mountain communities and religious tradition in this region. Small chapels and fountains scattered through the hamlets show how daily life has long been shaped by both faith and the natural landscape surrounding the villages.
The resort is well-equipped with shops, restaurants, and equipment rental stations, with all paths and slopes clearly marked for easy navigation. Roads wind through the mountains with good views, and parking is readily available near the ski lifts.
The resort comprises three distinct hamlets spread across a high plateau, each with its own character and connected by walking paths. This arrangement allows visitors to experience different village atmospheres while staying at the same elevation, something most ski resorts do not offer.
