Les Bans, Mountain summit in Massif des Écrins, France
Les Bans is a mountain summit in the Massif des Écrins featuring three distinct peaks, with the highest point reaching 3,669 meters. The formation rises within the Dauphiné Alps and displays several ridges that connect to surrounding valleys.
The mountain was first climbed on July 14, 1878, by William Auguste Coolidge along with mountaineers Christian Almer and U. Almer. This first ascent marks an important moment in the exploration of the Dauphiné Alps.
The mountain serves as a connection point for three substantial ridges: the north ridge, south ridge leading to Le Sirac, and west ridge.
Several mountain refuges are located nearby and offer support for visitors in the area. Access to the peak depends on the chosen route and season, with mountaineering experience recommended.
The northern side holds the Glacier de la Pilatte, a notable ice field feature. Different aspects of the peak provide access to the valleys of Valgaudemar, Vénéon, and Onde.
