Château de Villesavin, Renaissance castle in Tour-en-Sologne, France
Château de Villesavin is a Renaissance castle in the Sologne region, featuring a horseshoe-shaped main building with decorated dormers, two matching wings, and a central courtyard with an Italian marble fountain. The structure displays typical French Renaissance architectural details with ornate design throughout.
Jean le Breton, Finance Secretary under King François I, supervised construction of the castle between 1527 and 1537 near Château de Chambord. The building was created during the period of major Renaissance development in the region.
The castle houses a museum focused on wedding traditions, displaying objects and ceremonial items that show how people celebrated marriages over the centuries. You can see how customs evolved and what made these occasions special to families.
The castle is open to visitors from March to November with guided tours available in multiple languages and wheelchair access to several rooms. Plan enough time to explore the interior and grounds, especially if you want to visit the museum.
A 16th-century dovecote with approximately 1,500 nesting holes stands on the grounds, one of the few such structures to survive the French Revolution. This bird house reveals how important dove breeding was for a landowner's status.
