Aquarium du Périgord noir

Aquarium du Périgord noir is a water facility in Le Bugue with over 60 tanks housing thousands of freshwater fish from different environments. The place spreads across multiple levels and displays not only river and lake inhabitants but also houses an attached alligator park with tropical reptiles.

The aquarium was founded in the 1980s and has developed into an important center for freshwater ecosystem research over the decades. The expansion with a reptile park about a decade ago transformed it into a more versatile educational center covering various water environments.

The place displays freshwater wildlife through large viewing tanks where you can observe fish from European rivers and tropical waters side by side. Visitors experience the habitats of these animals up close and understand how river inhabitants differ across climates and regions.

The grounds are easy to walk through and have enough parking as well as rest areas between viewing the tanks. You should plan two to three hours to explore both the aquarium and the alligator park at a comfortable pace.

Visitors can participate in feeding activities with sturgeon and other fish under the guidance of trained professionals. This hands-on experience lets people understand the animals from a new perspective and interact directly with the caretakers.
