Abri du Poisson, Archaeological cave shelter in Les Eyzies, France.

The Abri du Poisson features a sculpted salmon measuring over one meter in length on the ceiling of a rock shelter measuring 8 meters wide.

Discovered in 1892 by Paul Girod and Elie Massénat, the cave gained recognition when Jean Marsan found the fish sculpture in 1912.

The salmon carving represents a male fish during spawning season, showing anatomical details that indicate the prehistoric artists' deep understanding of nature.

The cave requires advance reservations through the Font-de-Gaume visitor center, as access is restricted to maintain preservation of the prehistoric art.

The fish sculpture stands as one of only twelve known fish representations in Franco-Cantabrian prehistoric art, making it an exceptional archaeological discovery.
