Araghju

The Castellu d'Araghju is a prehistoric fortress perched on a rocky hilltop about 245 meters above sea level and surrounded by thick ring walls. The structure includes a large inner courtyard accessible through a narrow passage, along with reinforced areas and towers positioned at key defensive points.

This site was built during the Bronze Age around 2500 BCE and served as a military stronghold. The two bastions flanking the main entrance demonstrate the strategic nature of this prehistoric fortification.

The name Araghju comes from the ancient fortification that has shaped this hilltop for millennia. Today, you can observe how the original builders positioned this settlement to command views across the surrounding land.

Access is via a hiking trail up the hillside that allows visitors to walk along the wall tops and enjoy views across the surrounding plains. The ground is rocky and can be steep in places, so sturdy footwear and care are needed.

Small chambers built beside the entrances served as lookout positions where defenders could watch and control access to the fortress. These spaces reveal how sophisticated the builders' defensive strategies were.
