Punta di a Vacca Morta, Granite summit in Ospedale, France
Punta di a Vacca Morta is a granite summit in Ospedale that rises to 1,314 meters (4,311 feet) and overlooks Lake Ospedale and the Porto-Vecchio Gulf. The peak consists of solid stone and stands out as a clear landmark in the southern Corsican landscape.
This mountain formed through geological processes that shaped the Mediterranean island over many thousands of years. The ancient granite formation is evidence of the deep geological history of southern Corsica.
The paths around this summit follow ancient herding routes that Corsicans have used for generations to move their flocks seasonally. You can still observe signs of these traditional practices in how the landscape is shaped today.
The hiking trail begins at the Cartalavonu parking area and follows a marked route covering about 6 kilometers with roughly 300 meters of elevation gain. Bring plenty of water and sturdy shoes since the granite surface can become slippery.
Endemic pine trees grow on the eastern slopes, found only in this part of southern Corsica. This rare forest formation makes the area botanically special and gives the mountain a distinctive appearance.
