Château de Miglos, Medieval castle in Miglos, France
Château de Miglos is a medieval castle ruin perched on a limestone outcrop that overlooks the valleys below in the Ariège region. The remains show a compact structure with two distinct towers positioned at different points of the site.
The castle first appeared in written records in 1213 as a fortification under the control of Raymond-Roger, Count of Foix. Major restoration work took place in 1320, reinforcing the structure for continued defense.
The fortress represented a key element in the defense network of the upper Foix county, connecting with neighboring castles to protect regional territories.
The ruin sits on a steep hilltop and requires a walk through the valley to reach it. Access is generally possible, but the climb is demanding and weather can change quickly in the mountains.
The southeast tower once stood about 19 meters high and contained a rectangular keep inside. The northwest tower served as a dungeon with its entrance at ground level.
