Château de Miral

Château de Miral is a fortified complex where the Runes and Tarn rivers meet, built around a square keep and a tall round tower. The structures rest on natural rock formations and feature a double defensive wall system.

The fortress was built in the 13th century as a stronghold for the Cahbrieres family. It later passed to the Malbosc family, who made it their residence starting in 1300.

The chapels inside hold Renaissance wall paintings featuring both religious and worldly scenes. These artworks give visitors a glimpse into the tastes and beliefs of those who once lived here.

The castle sits about 10 kilometers from Florac, accessible via road D998. Visits happen only by appointment and typically last around one hour.

The fortress once guarded access to silver mines in the surrounding area. This strategic location made it a valuable property for the families who controlled it.
