Château de Nitray, Renaissance castle in Athée-sur-Cher, France.

Château de Nitray is a Renaissance castle in Athée-sur-Cher featuring two defensive towers, one of which contains a chapel. The building sits within approximately 43 hectares of land laid out with English-style gardens and vineyards.

The castle was built in the 16th century by Aimery Lopin, mayor of Tours who served Louise of Savoy. It replaced an earlier structure that stood on the site from the 13th century.

The castle houses an active winery producing local grape varieties like Chenin, Cabernet, and Sauvignon, which connect the place to the region's wine culture. You can observe how this tradition shapes daily activities and the overall character of the estate.

The castle features reception halls that accommodate up to 200 seated guests for various events. The grounds are walkable and visitors should allow time to explore both the gardens and the vineyard areas.

The castle preserves a working dovecote with an original rotating ladder system that remains in excellent condition. This device is a rare example of earlier craftsmanship that few visitors notice.
