Lac du Val

Lac du Val is a lake set among Jura mountains with clear water and wooded shores that stretch for several kilometers. The banks slope down at varying angles and create natural coves, while a small island divides parts of the water surface.

The lake formed through erosion by the Hérisson River, which carved the valley over centuries and collected water. This natural formation became a focal point for human settlement in the area.

The shoreline draws anglers who spend time here practicing their skills on the water in ways that have developed over time. The nearby villages have close ties to this body of water, which remains part of their daily surroundings.

Multiple hiking paths lead around the lake, ranging from short walks to routes lasting several hours through the mountains. The best time to visit is from May through September, when weather is more stable and trails are easily accessible.

The lake freezes over during particularly cold winters, allowing rarely seen activities like ice skating on its surface. This occurrence draws local visitors and transforms the water into an entirely different place.
