Marché des Blancs-Manteaux, Market hall in Le Marais district, Paris, France.
Marché des Blancs-Manteaux is a market hall built from stone, located between Vieille-du-Temple and Hospitalières-Saint-Gervais streets in Paris's 4th arrondissement. The structure features multiple levels that accommodate different functions within its walls.
The building was constructed in 1813 on the site of a former hospice that once stood there. A separate butcher section with decorative bronze bull head fountains was added 10 years later.
The name comes from a white-cloaked religious order that lived in a nearby street during medieval times. This historical connection shapes how locals understand the area's identity.
The hall is within easy walking distance of Saint-Paul metro station on line 1, with several bus stops nearby. Reaching it on foot is straightforward, and the entrance sits at street level.
Since 1992, the building has functioned as a cultural center run by the district town hall, a transformation few visitors realize. The space now hosts rotating exhibitions and performances instead of its original market activities.
