Musée historique de l'hydraviation

The Musée historique de l'hydraviation is a history museum in Biscarrosse dedicated to seaplane aviation, displaying more than 600 objects and 12 preserved aircraft. The indoor exhibition space spans 480 square meters and covers the technical and operational history of this specialized form of flight.

In 1930, Pierre Georges Latécoère selected Biscarrosse as the site for assembling and testing French seaplanes, transforming it into a major aviation hub. This choice shaped the region's development for decades to come.

The museum preserves the memory of an era when seaplanes operated as vital links between distant places, connecting people across vast distances in ways that seemed remarkable at the time. This role shaped how the region saw itself and remains part of its identity today.

The museum is open from February through December, and group visits of 10 or more visitors can arrange guided tours. Plan to spend time examining the technical details and models that explain how these specialized aircraft operated.

A restored GRUMMAN Albatross seaplane stands as the centerpiece of the collection and required three years of careful work to return it to its current condition. The aircraft demonstrates the dedication involved in preserving such machines for future generations.
