Founded in 1983 and designated as musée de France in 2003, the museum preserves centuries of wallpaper manufacturing techniques and design evolution.
The museum displays panoramic wallpapers that transform walls into artistic narratives, depicting historical events, distant lands, and mythological scenes.
Located at 28 rue Zuber, the museum is currently undergoing renovations until December 2025, with plans to restore the Commanderie de Rixheim building.
Annual visitor numbers increased from 8,294 in 2004 to 14,200 in 2019, demonstrating growing interest in wallpaper heritage and decorative arts.
