The Zoo and Botanical Garden of Branféré is a 35-hectare park housing around 1,000 animals from 150 species including antelopes, gibbons, hippopotamuses, lemurs, and various birds. The animals live in naturalistic enclosures that recreate their native habitats.
The estate originated in 1662, with its château built in 1848, before Paul Jourde transformed it into a wildlife park. It opened to the public in 1965.
The Nicolas Hulot School for Nature and Man has operated within the grounds since 2004 as a learning center for environmental topics. Visitors can explore how the site connects conservation efforts with education about wildlife protection.
The park is open daily and offers guided tours as well as educational workshops for visitors of all ages. Basic facilities including restrooms, cafés, and rest areas are distributed throughout the grounds.
A weeping tree over 300 years old stands as a recognized exceptional specimen in France. The botanical collection includes around 70 tree species spread across the grounds.
