Ruchottes-Chambertin, Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, France
Ruchottes-Chambertin is a Grand Cru vineyard on the upper slopes of Côte de Nuits with limestone-rich soils that extend beside Mazis-Chambertin and Clos de Bèze. The site covers around 3.5 hectares and offers ideal conditions for Pinot Noir production thanks to its southeastern exposure and good drainage.
The vineyard received official recognition as a Grand Cru appellation in 1937 and has since been subject to strict production regulations. This classification solidified its place among Burgundy's most respected wine producers.
The vineyard is part of a network of top producers who have passed down their methods through generations using traditional handcraft techniques. Visitors notice the carefully tended vines and historic stone walls that separate individual plots.
The site is best visited in autumn during harvest season when vineyard activity is at its peak. The upper slopes require sturdy footwear and some stamina, but visitors are rewarded with sweeping views across the surrounding region.
The vineyard is divided into two distinct sections: Ruchottes du Dessus with steep slopes and Ruchottes bas, each contributing different characteristics to the final wine. This natural division shapes the character of every wine produced from this area.
