Pic Nord du Merlet

Pic Nord du Merlet is a summit in the Belledonne range rising to 2563 meters with exposed rock faces and steep drops on its sides. The landscape shows typical high-altitude alpine terrain with vegetation that thins out as you climb higher.

The summit was documented in early French maps of the Belledonne range and served as an orientation point for surrounding communities. Its prominence on topographic records reflects its long-standing role as a geographic reference in this mountain area.

Local mountaineers gather annually at the summit to celebrate the traditional mountain festivals that mark the beginning of the summer hiking season.

The main route to the summit starts from Le Replat and requires climbing experience and good physical fitness for the steep ascent. Start early in the day and be prepared for changing weather conditions at altitude.

Just before the summit there is a grassy section that becomes slippery in wet conditions and requires careful foot placement. This stretch is often the most demanding part of the climbing route.
