Mont San-Columbano

Mont San-Columbano is a mountain summit in Corsica that reaches 813 meters and features steep slopes with natural rock outcrops throughout. The exposed position on the ridge allows views in multiple directions across the landscape.

The name comes from Saint Columbanus, an Irish missionary who founded monasteries across France in the 6th century. His influence on these lands persists as a historical layer.

Shepherds still use the slopes to graze their flocks, a practice that shapes how the landscape looks and feels today. This daily activity connects the mountain to the communities living nearby.

Several marked hiking paths connect the summit to villages in the area, with the eastern approach being the most direct route. Sturdy footwear and water are helpful since the climb is steep and exposed in places.

On clear days, the summit offers views of both the Mediterranean Sea and the interior mountains of northern Corsica at the same time. This dual perspective is something visitors often miss if they don't reach the top.
