Puy de Prat de Bouc, Mountain summit in Monts du Cantal, France.
Puy de Prat de Bouc is a summit in the Monts du Cantal region that rises to 1,392 meters within the Massif Central. The slopes display clear volcanic origins through rock formations and open grasslands that cover much of the mountainside.
The mountain formed through volcanic activity during the Tertiary period that shaped the entire Cantal region. This volcanic phase left the distinctive rock formations that define the landscape today.
The summit area serves as a gathering point for traditional mountain festivals where local communities celebrate seasonal changes with regional music and dance.
The summit can be reached via marked walking trails from several villages including Paulhac, Cézens, and Brezons. Parking is available at Col de Prat de Bouc to access the different starting points.
The summit serves as an important observation point for migrating birds that regularly pass through the area. More than 160 different bird species have been recorded here since the 1970s, particularly raptors during autumn passage.
