Premantura, Coastal settlement in Medulin, Croatia.
Premantura is a small coastal village at the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula, in the municipality of Medulin, Croatia. The village sits right on the water, surrounded by rocky shores and small coves, with Cape Kamenjak stretching to the south.
In ancient times, the settlement was known as Promontorium Polaticum, a name that referred to its position as a prominent cape near Pula. During the 1900s, the area passed through Austrian, Italian, and Yugoslav rule before becoming part of Croatia.
Cape Kamenjak, just outside the village, is a protected nature area where visitors walk or cycle along coastal paths to reach secluded coves. Locals tend to gather at the same spots on summer evenings, giving the area a relaxed, familiar feel.
The village is easy to reach by car, with parking available near the center and at the entrance to Cape Kamenjak. Those planning to explore the cape should wear comfortable shoes, as the paths can be rocky and uneven in places.
Dinosaur footprints have been found in the rock along Cape Kamenjak, preserved in limestone that dates back to the Cretaceous period. They sit in plain sight along the coastal rocks, easy to spot once you know where to look.
