Povile is a small settlement on the Adriatic coast near Novi Vinodolski, where white stone houses sit between green hills and blue water. The buildings are scattered across the landscape, and from many spots you can see the sea.
The settlement was part of territory controlled by the Frankopan family in medieval times, when they held power throughout the Vinodol region. This family shaped the development of the entire coastal area for generations.
Local residents maintain traditional Croatian coastal customs, including maritime activities and the preparation of regional Adriatic dishes with fresh caught fish.
The settlement is connected to other coastal towns by local roads and easy to walk around. The best time to visit is during the warmer months, when the weather is stable.
With only 220 residents recorded in the 2021 census, Povile maintains the character of a small Mediterranean coastal community spread across 2.9 square kilometers.
