Pazinska jama

Pazinska jama is a cave system located beneath Pazin that extends roughly 270 meters underground and is topped by limestone cliffs rising to about 100 meters high. The system terminates at a subterranean lake fed by the Pazincica River, where water flows from multiple directions into the underground basin.

The cave system was inhabited since prehistoric times, as shown by archaeological finds at the cave entrance. Evidence of early human settlement patterns suggests that people have used this region for thousands of years.

The cave featured in Jules Verne's 1885 novel 'Mathias Sandorf', where the writer set portions of his adventure story within the underground passages and chambers. This literary connection has made the place popular among fans of classic adventure literature.

Visitors can explore the system on guided tours offered year-round, with tours lasting around 2.5 hours. Equipment is provided, and the tours travel through approximately 1000 meters of passages with varying difficulty levels.

The gorge above the cave is crossed by four zip lines, with the longest spanning roughly 280 meters. These zip lines create an unexpected adrenaline experience, reaching speeds of around 50 kilometers per hour.
