Pazinska jama, Natural cave system in Pazin, Croatia
The Pazinska jama extends 270 meters underground beneath 100-meter-high limestone cliffs and terminates at a subterranean lake formed by the Pazincica River.
Archaeological discoveries near the cave entrance reveal continuous human presence in the area since prehistoric times, with artifacts indicating early settlement patterns.
Jules Verne incorporated the cave into his 1885 novel 'Mathias Sandorf', setting portions of the narrative within its underground passages and chambers.
The cave offers guided speleological tours from January through December, with equipment provided and tours lasting 2.5 hours through 1000 meters of passages.
Four zip lines stretch across the cave gorge, with the longest segment extending 280 meters and reaching speeds of 50 kilometers per hour.
