Zarečki krov, Waterfall and cave in Istria, Croatia

Zarečki krov is a waterfall in central Istria that drops about 10 meters into a clear pool as part of the Pazinčica river system. The water collects in a natural basin that is suitable for swimming.

Zarečki krov is one of a series of waterfalls on the Pazinčica that share the same form: a cave opening beneath the falling water. The river cuts through the limestone of the Pazinčica valley, and downstream lies the related Pazinski krov cave and waterfall. The site sits 3 km from Pazin on the road toward Cerovlje.

Young people from Pazin swim in the lake beneath the waterfall in summer, and a water polo tournament, the "Zarečki krov" tournament, is held here. The cave roof over the water gives the site its name.

Zarečki krov lies about 3 km from Pazin on the road toward Cerovlje, in Istria County, Croatia. The cave and waterfall are reached on foot; the surrounding rocks are used as climbing routes, so expect climbers on the walls. In summer local young people swim in the pool below the fall.

The cave is not a separate chamber but the overhang that gives the site its name: the Pazinčica pours over its rim as a waterfall about ten metres high into a pool nearly ten metres deep. Downstream lies the similar Pazinski krov, and a water polo tournament, the "Zarečki krov", is held here.
