Tura, Administrative division in Pest County, Hungary

Tura is an administrative division in Pest County located in the Galga Valley between the Great Plain and the Mátra Hills. The settlement contains the Schossberger Castle built in 1883 and a Baroque granary from the early 1800s that reflect its regional importance.

The settlement was first documented in 1220 as Thwra in the Varadi charter and was controlled by the Ákos family before King Sigismund claimed it in 1425. This transfer marked a shift in local authority as the region came under royal control.

The town preserves folk songs that composer Béla Bartók recorded here in 1906, capturing musical traditions that shaped Hungarian culture. These recordings show how local customs remain connected to the broader national identity through everyday art.

The location is easily accessible via the M3 motorway and the Budapest-Hatvan-Miskolc railway line, providing quick connections to larger cities. Visitors should note this is a small settlement, so checking opening hours and availability before traveling is wise.

The castle was designed by renowned architect Miklós Ybl, who also shaped other important buildings across Hungary. This connection to a nationally significant architect highlights the settlement's former prominence.
