Liberty Hall, Trade union skyscraper in Dublin, Ireland
Liberty Hall is a 16-story skyscraper in Dublin standing about 59 meters tall with an elongated form topped by a distinctive copper zig-zag roof. The structure sits near the River Liffey and houses office spaces, conference facilities, and a theater that hosts regular public events.
It stands on the site of the former Northumberland Hotel, which served as headquarters for the Irish Citizen Army during the 1916 Easter Rising. The building underwent repairs after a 1972 explosion that left permanent marks on its appearance.
It serves as headquarters for SIPTU, Ireland's largest trade union, and stands as a symbol of labor movements and workers' rights in the country. The building's role reflects how the labor movement shaped Dublin's identity.
The building sits near good public transport connections and is easily accessible from different parts of the city. Check ahead for theater events and exhibitions, as these determine when you can explore the interior.
The building's distinctive silver reflective windows came about after a 1972 bombing damaged the original transparent glass and required repairs. This metallic finish became an unintended signature feature that visitors notice immediately today.
