Abbeville, Tipperary, Country house in County Tipperary, Ireland

Abbeville is a three-story stone residence in County Tipperary with three-part windows, carved stone details on the sides, and an elaborate front entrance topped with a fan-shaped window. Around the main building stand large limestone structures with archways that once served as carriage houses.

The Hemsworth family held the estate from the early 1700s until 1890, when Thomas Gerard Hemsworth sold the property and relocated to Canada. This sale ended a long period of family ownership and marked a turning point in the property's history.

The building shows different construction periods blended together, with features from both the 17th and 19th centuries visible in its structure. Walking around it, you notice how Irish country houses were modified and expanded as families updated their homes over time.

You can reach the property via local roads that connect to the surrounding area easily. The main building and its outbuildings are accessible for viewing from the outside, making it easy to walk around and see the full layout of the estate.

North of the main building stands a remnant of an old canal system that once managed water across the estate. This overlooked feature reveals how Irish landowners engineered their properties to handle water movement long before modern utilities existed.
