Skryne Castle

Skryne Castle is a medieval fortress ruin in County Meath with stone walls rising three stories high. The structure displays typical features of a Norman fortification, including tower elements and defensive reinforcements that are still visible today.

Adam de Feypo constructed this fortress in the 12th century during the Norman expansion into Ireland. Its creation marked a period when foreign settlers began reshaping the Irish landscape with new fortified settlements.

The castle was closely linked to the FitzGerald family, whose power shaped many fortified sites across medieval Ireland. Visitors can still sense this noble connection in the building's structure and its position in the landscape.

Local accounts describe a ghostly figure in white, said to be Lilith Palmerston, appearing near the ruins. Her tragic tale from the 18th century adds a haunting layer to the site's story that intrigues visitors interested in supernatural history.
