Lia Fáil, Ancient coronation stone at Hill of Tara, Ireland
Lia Fáil is a stone monument at the Hill of Tara in County Meath, Ireland. The upright pillar reaches approximately 3 feet in height and shows a rough surface with clear signs of weathering.
Tradition connects the stone with the arrival of mythical tribes in pre-Christian times. For centuries it served as a symbol of royal power during coronation ceremonies of Irish high kings.
The name means „Stone of Destiny
Visitors reach the monument through marked paths across the Hill of Tara grounds. The location sits roughly 28 miles (45 kilometers) north of Dublin in County Meath.
Legends tell that the stone responded audibly when touched by rightful rulers. This quality reportedly ceased after an encounter with the hero Cúchulainn.
