Killeen Castle is a grey stone building with a symmetrical facade, its central block flanked by two projecting square towers that rise slightly above the roofline. Rows of rectangular windows mark its multiple storeys, and tall chimneys stand evenly spaced along the roof. It was rebuilt in 1841 in the style of a small Windsor Castle, and the two towers bear the dates 1181 and 1841.

A Norman fortification was established here in 1181 by Geoffrey de Cusack, serving as the family seat for generations. The property passed to the Plunkett dynasty in 1399 and remained under their control for centuries.

The estate serves as a venue where people gather for weddings and celebrations in its grand halls and gardens. Visitors can experience how these historic spaces have been adapted for modern social occasions.

The estate is located about 30 minutes from Dublin Airport, making it fairly accessible by car. Visitors will find lodging, dining, and refreshment options available throughout the grounds.

The golf course on the grounds hosted the Solheim Cup in 2011, the first time Ireland had hosted this major international tournament. The course was designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus.
