Ballintaggart Ogham Stones

Ballintaggart Ogham Stones is a collection of ten oval sandstone slabs arranged in a circular pattern near Dingle Harbor in County Kerry. The stones stand within an enclosure and bear carved inscriptions showing names and tribal markings from ancient times.

These stones date from the 5th and 6th centuries and served as burial markers for the Corcu Duibne tribe with inscriptions in early Irish language. Four of them later received Christian crosses carved alongside their original ogham text.

The site is easily accessible near the N86 road southeast of Dingle Town, with signs marking the enclosure entrance. The stones are outdoors in an open setting, making them available to visit at any time.

The arrangement shows a central large stone surrounded by eight others, suggesting a deliberately planned ritual or ceremonial layout rather than a simple burial ground. This circular configuration creates a focal point that may have held special significance for the ancient community.
