Lalitgiri, Buddhist archaeological site in Cuttack district, India
The Lalitgiri complex incorporates multiple stone-carved stupas, monasteries, and Buddhist sculptures spread across elevated terrain in eastern India.
Archaeological excavations conducted between 1977 and 1991 revealed structures dating from the post-Mauryan period through the 13th century CE.
The site contains rare stone caskets housing Buddha relics, including bone fragments preserved in golden containers discovered within the main stupa.
The archaeological complex maintains a museum displaying Buddhist sculptures, pottery fragments, and inscriptions recovered from multiple excavation phases.
Four distinct monasteries occupy the site, with the largest being a two-story structure measuring 36 square meters from the 10th century.
